Burton Gateways
Burton in Bloom is an extremely popular initiative by the Burton Community Association to improve the appearance of the village. Since first impressions are so important, one of the first objectives of Burton in Bloom was to tidy up the main entrances to the village on the B4039, and to provide picket gates and planters. The picket gates and planters have a road safety benefit by highlighting the start of the built up area, the village signs, and the speed limit signs, and for this reason, Wiltshire Council were willing to fund 75% of the cost of the gates, and Nettleton Parish Council have funded the balance. The gates are made from recycled plastic, and are thus very durable and need no maintenance apart from an occasional wash. Burton in Bloom volunteers undertake mowing and strimming of the verges by the gates, and watering and maintaining the plants. The village appearance is much improved by Burton in Bloom, not only by this project, but also the work carried out on the Tidy Up days it organises.

Thank you to everyone involved in bringing about this welcome change, including the generous funding of the gates by Wiltshire Council and Nettleton Parish Council, and the planters and plants by the BCA.
