You don’t need expensive camera equipment to enter. Previous finalists have used phone cameras to exceptional effect.

For eligibility criteria and how to enter, click here. Be as creative as you like with your interpretation of the theme, but all entries must meet the broad remit of the theme.

This month’s theme: February flora

This month, it is all about the early colour you will find on verges and in woodlands. Mainly in yellows and whites, colours which reflect most light, these flowers attract early pollinators, such as flies. Look out for snowdrops, celandines, coltsfoot, dandelion, wood anemone, daisies, primroses, marsh marigolds and others.

But don’t forget about the green foliage of ferns and ivy, and evergreen trees.
