Dear Resident(s),
As you are no doubt aware this year the May bank holiday (usually on a Monday) has been changed to Friday 8th May to coincide with the 75th anniversary of VE day.
Unfortunately due to the coronavirus pandemic any social gatherings/parties have been banned, however this remains an important landmark event to mark the occasion for the war ending in Europe, which honours the men and women of WW2, and especially as sadly the number of living veterans is decreasing.
Whilst our children are at home, this could also be used as an educational opportunity to remind our younger generations over the importance and significance of World War 2, both on the battlefield and at home and maybe how this impacted upon your own family generations ago.
If you have any photographs of the village life during the war period or of a relative who maybe served then I would be very happy to publish these on the village website library to help preserve local history.
Do you know of any war related incidents in or around Burton which could be shared with the current community?
How everyone can get involved? – It would be super to see our village pay tribute and raise flags and bunting (as happened way back in 1945) to mark the event during the weekend of 8th – 10th May.
If the weather is kind for that weekend, it would be nice to see the village decorated when taking your daily exercise.
Bearing in mind the current Government guidelines, if you have any additional ideas then please feel free to contact me so they can be cascaded to the community.
Regards
Chris
