News

As demand for print books continues to grow, the industry struggles to cope with supply issues.

The shortage of hauliers prevents books from getting to shops. Ink, glue and paper are also all in short supply. Paper mills have turned to producing the more lucrative cardboard and packaging material. On the bookshelves, the paper shortage has changed the size of some books, as printers adopt different grade paper and smaller type font.

Maria, Maria: & Other Stories Marytza K. Rubio. (Release date: 26 April 2022.) Tropigoth short story collection.

The Carnival of Ash ⭐ Tom Beckerlegge. (Release date: 15 March 2022.) Cadenza is a city whose fabric and industry is the written word. Speculative fiction.

Reading Highlights

The Insect Crisis: The Fall of the Tiny Empires That Run the World ⭐⭐⭐ (2022) Oliver Milman. Fascinating exploration of the perils faced by insects. Non-fiction.

Bring up the Bodies ⭐⭐⭐ (2019) Hilary Mantel. Stonkingly good follow up to Wolf Hall. Historical fiction.

Daughter of the Moon Goddess ⭐⭐ (The Celestial Kingdom Duology #1) (2022) Sue Lynn Tan. Chinese myth-based quest of a young woman to free her mother. Fantasy.

Book Club Reading

The Burton Book Club is currently reading The Mirror and the Light (2021) by Hilary Mantel.
