Do you know about this service, held on the first Sunday of the month? If your image of a church service is of an event without laughter and where children are shushed if they make a murmur, think again.
Here children are welcome, their laughter too (is there any lovelier sound in the world?) If young ones wish to play hide-and-seek in the pews, that’s fine too (within reason!)
It’s very informal, you don’t need to wear a suit or your Sunday finest (though you are welcome to do so if you like), T-shirts are fine.
There are activities for the young ones.
Mike King, a lay minister, who normally conducts the service, starts with a short story which is always thought-provoking and often humorous (how does he find them month after month?). Then he organises activities for the children while he gives an address and short prayers.
There are always child friendly hymns.
Afterwards there are refreshments and a chance to socialise, and perhaps, if you wish raise questions about the service or matters of faith generally. Of course, it’s not just for people with children – couples, those new to the village or living on their own may welcome the chance to meet new friends.
